چکیده

We present in this paper several results concerning a simple model of interaction between an inviscid fluid, modeled by the Burgers equation, and a particle, assumed to be point-wise. It is composed by a first-order partial differential equation which involves a singular source term and by an ordinary differential equation. Though this model can be considered simple, its mathematical analysis is tough. Several results are presented, according to the term of interaction (linear or quadratic) and we also describe numerical methods, which are analyzed and tested.

Wave Propagation at the Boundary Surface of Inviscid Fluid Half-Space and Thermoelastic Diffusion Solid Half-Space with Dual-Phase-Lag Models

The present investigation deals  with the reflection and transmission phenomenon due to incident plane longitudinal wave at a plane interface between inviscid fluid half-space and a thermoelastic diffusion solid half-space with dual-phase-lag heat transfer (DPLT) and dual-phase-lag diffusion (DPLD) models. The theory of thermoelasticity with dual-phase-lag heat transfer developed by Roychoudhar...

An added-mass partition algorithm for fluid-structure interactions of compressible fluids and nonlinear solids

We describe an added-mass partitioned (AMP) algorithm for solving fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems involving inviscid compressible fluids interacting with nonlinear solids that undergo large rotations and displacements. The computational approach is a mixed Eulerian-Lagrangian scheme that makes use of deforming composite grids (DCG) to treat large changes in the geometry in an accurat...

Interfacial waves due to a singularity in a system of two semi-infinite fluids

The three-dimensional interfacial waves due to a fundamental singularity steadily moving in a system of two semi-infinite immiscible fluids of different densities are investigated analytically. The two fluids are assumed to be incompressible and homogenous. There are three systems to be considered: one with two inviscid fluids, one with an upper viscous and a lower inviscid fluid, and one with ...

An analysis of a new stable partitioned algorithm for FSI problems. Part I: Incompressible flow and elastic solids

Stable partitioned algorithms for fluid-structure interaction (FSI) problems are developed and analyzed in this two-part paper. Part I describes an algorithm for incompressible flow coupled with compressible elastic solids, while Part II discusses an algorithm for incompressible flow coupled with structural shells. Importantly, these new added-mass partitioned (AMP) schemes are stable and retai...

A Discrete Kato Type Theorem on Inviscid Limit of Navier-stokes Flows

The inviscid limit of wall bounded viscous flows is one of the unanswered central questions in theoretical fluid dynamics. Here we present a result indicating the difficulty in numerical study of the problem. More precisely, we show that numerical solutions of the incompressible NavierStokes equations converge to the exact solution of the Euler equations at vanishing viscosity provided that sma...
